Overview

MarkdownTools.io ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our website.

Data Processing

The tools process everything in your browser. When you use a converter, generator, cheat sheet or the editor without an account:

  • Your content is processed entirely on your device using JavaScript
  • Nothing you type or open is sent to a server
  • We do not store your content
  • We have no access to any file you open or text you enter

There is one exception, and it only applies if you choose it: creating an account and saving a document to the cloud. That is the subject of the next section. Without an account, nothing on this site uploads anything.

Cloud Documents (optional)

If you create an account, documents you save are stored by Google Firebase (Firestore, US multi-region) on our behalf, so you can reach them from another device or through the API. This is the only feature on the site that stores what you write.

  • What we hold: your email address, the documents you save, their titles and timestamps, and — if you create them — share links and API tokens.
  • Passwords: handled by Firebase Authentication. We never see or store them.
  • API tokens: stored only as a SHA-256 hash. A token is shown once when created and cannot be recovered afterwards, by you or by us.
  • Private by default: a saved document is readable only by your account until you publish a share link. A share link is an unguessable address that anyone holding it can read; you can revoke it at any time, and search engines are told not to index it.
  • Retention: documents are kept until you delete them. Deleting your account removes every document, share link and token, and the sign-in itself, immediately and irreversibly. We keep no backups, so your own export is the only other copy.
  • Taking your data: Settings → Export everything downloads every document you hold, in full, as one JSON file.
  • On your device: the workspace keeps a copy of your documents in browser storage so it works offline. Signing out deletes that copy.

We do not read your documents, and we do not use them to train anything. Google processes them as our infrastructure provider under its own terms.

Local Storage

Some of our tools use your browser's local storage to save your work (such as the Markdown editor). This data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not build a profile of you across sites. It records:

  • Page views and referrer
  • Browser, operating system, and device type
  • Country-level location

A handful of tools also report which step you reached — that a sample was loaded, that a conversion succeeded, that a file was exported, or that you moved to another tool. Those events carry the tool's name and the type of action only. They never include your document, your file names, or anything you typed.

The workspace reports the same kind of thing — that an account was created, a document saved, a share link published or revoked, a token created. Those events carry the name of what happened and, at most, which route you took to it (an upload, a URL, a local draft). They never carry a document, a title, a document id, a share link, or your email address.

Error Monitoring

We use Sentry to report JavaScript errors so broken tools get noticed and fixed. An error report contains the page address, the error message and stack trace, and your browser and operating system version. We do not send the Markdown, files, or text you were working on.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies at all — not for analytics, not for advertising, and none required to make the tools work. The only data kept between visits is the browser storage described above, which stays on your device.

Third-Party Services

The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server request logs including IP addresses. Vercel Analytics and Sentry, described above, receive what those sections describe. Google Firebase stores accounts and cloud documents, and is contacted only once you sign in — a signed-out visit reaches no Google service. Fonts and tool assets, including the OCR and PDF engines, are served from this domain, so using a tool makes no request to any other company. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites we link to.

Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
